Baksteenhoek Sarrisam and Swartfontein
Dearest, Yours truly and offspring Nini eventually jaunted into the vast plains of the Namaqua sandveld on Sunday last. Our route took us from Hondeklip Bay past Baksteenhoek en route to Wallekraal. The flowers at Baksteenhoek is awesome, beautiful, spectacular! Just past Wallekraal, we turned off onto the Sarrisam farm road. At first, we were a bit dejected as the flowers were few and a bit scraggly. We carried on regardless as we actually wanted to get to the coast. About 12 kms later, we were rewarded with the most awesome sight to behold. A carpet of Daisies, Gorterias, Vygies, Skaappbosse, Ossierapuise, Sporries, Reksenings and more! The attached photos will expound. From Sarrisam towards the coast we found some fair patches of yellow with a few of the cerise Tnouroe bushes opening up here and there. Onwards towards Swartfontein we found lots of bright orange Perdeblomme giving their own spectacular show. By then it was almost 4pm and most of the flowers went to sleep. Hubby did promise though that we might venture out again, this time from Swartfontein towards Groen rivier, some time after the predicted 40% chance of rain within the next day or two.
