SKILPAD FLOWER REPORT 19 to 25 AUGUST 2008
Tuesday, August 26th, 2008Hi Namaqua National Park (Skilpad) Flower report for the week 26/08/2008 to 31/08/2008: It is still very dry. No rain fell the past week and we are in urgent need of more rain if we want to have a longer season. Skilpad area still has good flowers. The daisies have reached their peak and will probably start going down during the week. Other flowers making an appearance include Gazanias (various shades of yellow to red), ‘meidesterte’, Cattails, purple ‘hongerblomme’ and various vygies. Further from the park the Goegab Nature Reserve, Springbok surrounds and Nababeep also offers spectacular flower viewing. Apparently there are patches of nice flowers along sections of the coast, but I have not seen it personally. All the main roads in the area are drivable, although in some cases they are starting to become corrugated due to the heavier traffic. Recommended roads in the Namaqua National Park area: The town of Kamieskroon. Skilpad circle route. The Soebatsfontein road from Kamieskroon town to Grootvlei. Further afield the Steinkopf- Springbok road is good with a nice variety. Goegab and the general Springbok area- golf course etc. Regards BERNARD VAN LENTE PARK MANAGER: NAMAQUA NATIONAL PARK SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL PARKS PO BOX 117 KAMIESKROON 8241 TEL: +27 (0)27 672 1948 FAX: +27 (0)27 672 1015 CELL: +27 (0)83 640 4915 VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT www.sanparks.org
