Spoegriver Communal Grounds 23 July 2007

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

The flowers in the gap on both sides of the road towards Spoegriver Village are developing rapidly. Plenty of Perdebosse, rapuisbosse en even here and there a t’nouroebossie. Especially the short legged dark cerise ones but also some bigger shrubs in light pink, cerise, white and yellow. The flowers in the area of the farm Windheuvel are now spectacular! Be brave and tackle the small roads and explore. A nice patch can also be seen below the ruins of Japie Ras’s old derelict house. To get there take the road out of Spoeg river village until you get to the open gate. Turn right and carry on for about 300m. Take the left hand road. Keep going to the third road left. Turn here and watch for a track to your left (about 300m). The road is clearly visible on the hillock where it passes a corrugated iron shack. Keep going towards the lonely Eucalyptus tree under which an old vehicle and another shack rests. Just before the shack a faint track goes to the right. Be careful here as there is an ant heap in the track. The flowers are here! Explore further on foot, have a picnic and enjoy! The attached photos taken at Oom Japie’s old house. Explore all the roads but be careful for ditches etc. This excursion will be well worth your while. Regards Rina Auret Aigab

Sarrisam Soutfontein Sabies et al

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

The flowers on the Sarrisam road via Soutfontein and Sabies are truly spectacular. Should we have more rain, the flowers may last much longer. From Baievlei (off the Garies Hondeklip Bay road) via Soutfontein-Sarrisam and on to Wallekraal (on the Garies Hondeklip Bay road) you will find plenty of good fields covered in orange, yellow and white. The roads are good at the moment and we will report about the state of the roads again after the expected rain. Best wishes, Gert and Hestelle Engelbrecht, Tel 027-5811021, E-mail sarrisam@telkomsa.net Sarrisam Farm Accommodation.

Suggested sedan vehicle route for this week

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

South to North on the N7: .. 7km past Garies, turn left onto the Hondeklip Bay road. Drive onwards until you encounter the Soutfontein turnoff on your left. Onwards to Soutfontein, where you take the Sabies road to Groenrivier. Might be advisable to ask for directions at Soutfontein or Sarrisam. DO NOT take the road directly along the coast! According to Hestelle Engelbrecht, owner of Sarrisam Farm Accommodation (Contact: Tel 027-5811021, E-mail sarrisam@telkomsa.net), this route is absolutely spectacular at the moment. North to South on the N7: * As above but just before Garies, take the Hondeklip Bay turnoff. Regards from Namaqualand, Daisy Tel; 027 692 3041 www.hondeklip.co.za

From Garies, take the Hondeklip Bay turnoff, drive slowly, stop frequently, check out the hordes of petite flowers low on the ground, just before Wallekraal, turn off to Sarrisam farm. Just after passing the Sarrisam farm house, turn left towards the coast. Cross the Bitter river at Driekop, drive on until you reach a four way crossing near the sea. Turn left, cross the Bitter river once more, drive on towards Swartfontein farmstead, cross the Spoeg river and keep going north until you reach the Garies road. 4×4 Only!
